In Memory of Song Pu Lim (U Soe Myint)

Song Pu Lim (U Soe Myint)

We were deeply saddened by the passing of our alumnus and friend Song Pu Lim (U Soe Myint).  He was born in 1941 and passed away in November 2024.  He and his parents and siblings have roots in Taik Kyi Township (တိုက်ကြီးမြို့နယ်) of Yangon Region.

Song Pu had a towering figure.  He and his younger sisters had attended Wan Hua schools.  They speak Fujian.  The family had owned and operated San Pya Cinema, located at the corner of Phone Gyi Street and Anawrahta Road.  Song Pu's eldest brother founded the movie theatre.  It showed mostly Burmese movies.  Song Pu, who had a Bachelor of Commerce drgree from Rangoon Arts and Sciences University, worked as an accountant for the theatre.  Those were the good times for Song Pu and his parents and siblings.  Unfortunetly, like other privately-owned businesses, it was illegally seized by General Ne Win's military government in 1964.

Song Pu and his wife and their children are long-time residents of the San Francisco Bay Area.  Song Pu worked for the San Francisco Municipal Railway before his retirement.

Song Pu is survived by his wife and three daughters.  The family invites you to celebrate the life of Song Pu at Olivet Gardens Chapel, 1651 Hillside Blvd, Colma, Ca 94014 on Sunday, December 1st, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
