Obituary

Aung Kyaw, who was Hokkien, passed away peacefully in Taiwan on October 6, 2020. He is survived by a wife and a son and a daughter.

Aung Kyaw and all his brothers and sisters had attended Wan Hua schools. The family's house was located on Sinn O Dan Street in Yangon Chinatown.

Aung Kyaw, a soft-speaking person, often talked to his friends with a nice smile. We never heard him say anything that could hurt someone's feelings. While attending Wan Hua boys' school, Aung Kyaw organized a basketball team for us to compete in tournaments.  In the tournaments, we found ourselves playing against older or adult players from other teams.  Aung Kyaw was our team's captain.  We did not do well in those games because our rival teams played better with their experienced players.  Aung Kyaw never scolded us for losing games.  Our team continued to compete in the tournaments under Aung Kyaw's leadership until after we left CACS.  Aung Kyaw transferred to Chinese Methodist School to complete high school there.

Aung Kyaw, fully aware that there was no future for him in Burma, moved to Taiwan. There he fell in love with and married a local girl.  The couple later moved to Casablanca, Morocco, North Africa and opened a Chinese restaurant, called "Golden China." With little or no competition, the restaurant has enjoyed decent business.  The restaurant is now under his son's management.
