WHAA launched a 2026 fundraising campaign to help people in Myanmar facing a severe, widespread livelihood crisis. The Association collected a total of $2,800 (including $600 from the Wan Hua Fund) and sent funds to the SJA Sisters. Sister Magdalene Lim acknowledged receipt of 1,480,000 MMK — half for elderly women and internally displaced people, half for the orphanage in Hmawbi. An additional 10,000,000 MMK was distributed to SJA teams in different parts of Myanmar.
President Nora Kay embarked on a journey to Australia and New Zealand. During her visit, she had the pleasure of meeting Saya Raymond Kong (江仰民先生与太太楊美琴) in Melbourne. As a token of appreciation for his steadfast dedication to the alumni association, she presented him with a plaque.

Our alumni donated a total of US$3,150 to WHAA for our effort to fight pandemic-related hunger in Burma. We are grateful to the donors for their generosity and thoughtfulness. The association is set to send all the donations to SJA. The Catholic Sisters of the organization could soon deliver groceries, rice, cooking oil, and soap to families suffering from lockdowns.
With donations from our alumni, The Sisters of St. Joseph (SJA) will buy and deliver rice, cooking oil, soap and other basic necessities to people whose livelihoods were impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Apparition (SJA) had successfully run St. Emilie's Convent until the girls' school was nationalized in 1965. The current Provincial of SJA is Sister Magdelene Lim, whose mother Mrs. Chung Nyunt had been a Chinese-language teacher at Catholic Anglo-Chinese School and her brother Francisco Lim is our fellow Wan Hua alumnus.

This picnic saw some new faces — these new alumni joined our event for the first time. Wan Hua Alumni Association is gaining popularity among the San Francisco Bay Area's Wan Hua alumni, and the association is growing.
Many participants sang and danced under the sun. Lunch, among others, consisted of biryani, barbeque chicken, vegetable curry, bei byoke si-ta-min, pig's hand stew, samosa, tofu thoke, bayar kyaw, spring rolls, moke-kywe-the, cassava, honey dew, water melon. A good time was had by all.
Peter Chiu, a Wan Hua alumnus from Canada, and his wife Anne were on a 3-day visit in San Francisco in September 2008. Peter used to live on 30th Street near Royal Theatre in Rangoon. Soccer was his passion in those days. Currently Peter is Vice-President of the Burmese association in Vancouver.
David J. Wong, who shared an apartment with Peter when they were living in Hong Kong, threw a party in Peter and Anne's honor at Beijing Restaurant in South San Francisco. Toward the end of the lunch, Peter said that he would be back next time to meet with other fellow alumni in San Francisco.

About 125 schoolmates, their spouses and their guests attended this event — the first Chinese New Year Dinner ever held by the Association. It is noteworthy that Mrs. Song, a former teacher of St. Emilie's Convent, attended the banquet as our special guest. Throughout the banquet, the former Wanhua students exhibited a love and appreciation for their schools, and they really enjoyed the friendship of their schoolmates.
As the dinner proceeded, Vice-President Stan Liou made a contribution of $300 to the Association — the largest donation ever received by the Association. President Felix Chin and Distinguished Member Steven Leesan Kong followed suit, each donating $200. Each paying $30 for a ticket, attendees danced and sang karaoke at Grand Palace Seafood Restaurant.
