Web Administrator's Note: When students finished Seventh Standard at the Catholic Anglo Chinese School, most of them moved on to St. Anthony's Boys' School. This was the reason why the bulk of the St. Anthony's Boys' School's Basketball Team members came from CACS. Thanks to the the CACS Administration's commitment to physical education, CACS students not only excelled academically but also performed well in track and field, basketball and soccer. The players named below are all CACS alumni.

Unpaved Wan Hua basketball court. Once upon a time, annual Chiang Kai-Shek Cup basketball tournament was held here. For many years, our Association's predecessor "WANYOU" had been the tournament's champion team. Our fellow alumni Min Sein and Yang Ming Kong were the star players. The tournament was later moved to St. Anthony Boys' School.
The building overlooking Mission Road and railroad tracks. The ground floor was divided into 3 rooms with rattan walls. They served as classrooms during the day and served as study rooms for boarding students in the evening. It was pretty hard to study in these rooms in the evening because of the blood-sucking mosquitoes trying to bite our hands and legs. Those who talked to each other would be hit in the butt with a cane by monitors. At the strike of 8 o'clock, boarding students left these rooms to go to bed on the 3rd floor in the adjacent building.

Mrs Song will be one of our honored guests at the Wan Hua Chinese New Year Dinner to be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010.
Kenneth and Annette Law (both are Wan Hua alumni) travelled to San Francisco in April 2011 to visit their Wan Hua schoolmates and to attend the Wan Hua Chinese Lunar New Year Dinner, held on April 29, 2011 in South San Francisco, California. Shortly after they returned to their cozy home, they scanned and e-mailed us old Wan Hua pictures. The Wan Hua Alumni Association is thankful for their contribution of these rare pictures. Our appreciation also goes to Arthur Wong, who helped identify our fellow alumni shown in these pictures.

James Chen (Mar Laoh) was famous among Wan Hua boys for the outdoor experiment he carried out 50 years ago. One hot summer day, near the tall trees behind the school church, James squatted himself down, placed a small piece of paper over a pile of leaves on the ground, pulled out a magnifying glass out of his pocket and then held it at an oblique angle over the paper. The magnifying glass was in the path of the sun light. The sun light fell on the lens in the center of the glass giving off a lot of heat and light on the other side of the lens. In a moment, the paper started to burn. His experiment drew applause from those who were watching anxiously. No one remembers whether he was punished by Father John Sue or Master Ting for his brilliant experiment. James Chen lives with his wife in Sinchu, Taiwan.
James Chen came to San Francisco in December 2008 to visit his fellow alumni. Arthur Wong gave a lei to James Chen as a token of welcome. Front row (l to r): Mrs. David J. Surgeon/Founder Toussaints Su ( (蘇宜輝院長/創辦人) of Fangliao General Hospital, Pingtung, Taiwan. Like all his siblings, the young Toussaints (also known as James) attended Catholic Anglo Chinese School. In 1970, he moved to Taiwan with his parents and siblings and enrolled in a high school there. Then he attended a medical school and trained to become a surgeon. Upon graduation, he joined a clinic, worked his way up, and eventually took it over from its owner. It did not stop him right there. As his patient base and his reputation grew, he gradually expanded and transformed the clinic into an accredited hospital. Dr. Su has made his mark in Southern Taiwan, providing medical and surgical care to many satisfied patients in his hospital, housed in a modern, state-of-the-art building. He has also acquired a piece of land to build a nursing home. Due to his award-winning smile, Dr. Su won a local girl Ray's heart and they tied the knot and live happily together.
